Donald Towns has ventured from making movies as a background artist, to following a passion for painting nature scenes. He has worked for Disney, Warner Bros., Fox Animation, Film Roman, and Thomas Kinkade, and now you can own his original artwork created for the home.
He left movie making behind to pursue fine arts, yet his experience in crafting magical scenes has lingered on in his fine art paintings. Donald’s pieces have that feel of animated movie stills, as if the paintings have their own stories to tell. DONALD’S STORY
Donald shares a bit of his background: "Between films at Disney, I was assigned various side projects like Walt Disney World showcases: the opening of Epcot and Tokyo Disneyland. As a background illustrator and art director, I was involved in the making of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid, as well as the groundbreaking TRON.
When former Disney director Richard Rich formed Rich-Crest Animation, I joined him to work on the feature film, The Swan Princess. We went on to create a series of character-building movies for kids, including the Animated Hero Classics, Kid’s Ten Commandments, and Nest Family Entertainment’s popular animated stories of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.
The motion picture industry was revolutionized by CGI, and this technology added digital painting to my skills. I was privileged to work under the late Thomas Kinkade as a digital concept artist, and in a recent project as Matte Painting Supervisor at the startup Martoos Animation Studio."
