For you matcha nerds out there, Tenzo is the first "flush ceremonial matcha". This means they only use the youngest, most nutrient-dense leaves off the top of a shade-grown green tea plant. Their plants are grown in Kagoshima, Japan, in volcanic soil, by a family of farmers that have been cultivating green tea for over 400 years.
TENZO QUALITEA: As Tenzo describes it, "Most leaves don’t make our cut. In fact, almost ALL leaves don’t make it. At Tenzo Tea, we handpick only the freshest, greenest, and most delicious leaves. Most matcha on the market is bitter, grainy, astringent, and dull in color, which means you have to add sweeteners or other additives to make it taste good. Tenzo, on the other hand, is so high-quality that it tastes great with just water."
WHAT IS A "TENZO"? Tenzo is the title given to the chef in a zen monastery. The Tenzo is responsible for preparing meals for the monks so they can practice meditation without hindrance. We like to think of a Tenzo as the giver of energy, with a cup of positivitea to uplift others, do good for the world, and be the best possible version of themselves.
